Cheese Grits
I can't think of a single dish that is more comforting and homier to me than grits—specifically Cheese Grits. When I'm sick, cold, not feeling well, or just want something that is a true comfort food, Cheese
Grits are my go-to.
Whether you are having grits for breakfast or dinner, they are versatile and can be paired with many different proteins. This particular Cheese Grits recipe is perfectly delicious on it's own but does pair well with shrimp, fried fish, or bacon crumbles.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 4-5
Ingredients:
4 cups whole milk
1 cup quick cook grits
½ stick butter
¼ cups grated cheddar cheese
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
Instructions:
Bring the milk to a boil over medium high heat.
Add the grits, salt, pepper and butter to the milk and stir until combined.
Cover the pot with a lid, turn off the heat completely, and leave the pot sitting on the stove for 7 minutes. Do not open the lid during this time.
After the 7 minutes is up, whisk until smooth.
Add cheese and whisk again.
Once combined, serve warm.
